Identification using redox reactions: Iodine-sodium azide
Consider what can be concluded from this test about the unknown
A mixture of sod sodium azide and iodine in potassium iodide in solution is a robust reagent, that will keep. A little sulfide will catalyse the redox reaction. Iodine is reduced to iodide (no colour) and azide is oxidised to nitrigen molecules (bubbles).
